Alaska Book Week at Anchorage Public Library

Don't miss the opportunity to meet some of our popular authors when they participate in Alaska Book Week at various branches. They will be giving their presentations via the OWL system, so if you live elsewhere and want to join in, just contact your local library for more information.

Thursday, October 3, 6-7pm: Images of America: Eagle River by Zane Treesh
Chugiak-Eagle River Library. Local author and librarian Zane Treesh presents images and stories from his pictorial history of Eagle River, published in June by Arcadia Publishing as part of their Images of America series. Signing will follow the presentation, and books will be available for purchase. This presentation will also be available via OWL videoconferencing. 

Saturday, October 5, 3pm: Romance by Jackie Ivie at Mountain View Library, 120 Bragaw, Anchorage. Meet author of paranormal and historical romances, Jackie Ivie. She will speak about being a romance writer and give away FREE copies of her newest book, A Knight Well Spent.

Wednesday, October 9, 6:30pm: The Raven’s Gift by Don Rearden at Girdwood Library. Join UAA professor Don Rearden for an Alaska Book Week talk on the magic of books and a reading from his novel The Raven’s Gift. , a chilling tale of what happens in a remote Yup’ik village when a deadly epidemic hits. What will it take to survive? This presentation will also be available via OWL videoconferencing.

Wednesday, October 9, 7pm: Kaylene Johnson and Dick Griffith discuss Canyons and Ice: The Wilderness Travels Of Dick Griffith at Loussac Library, Wilda Marston Theatre, Level 1. Join Kaylene Johnson and Dick Griffith as they talk about collaborating on the the book Canyons and Ice. Griffith, a legendary Alaskan, will share his epic wilderness travels across the American West, Mexico, Alaska and eventually an entire continent, and Johnson will expound on the journey of writing his story. This is a talk for all writers and those who seek adventure!

Thursday October 10, 7pm: The Evolution Of Alaska Literature at Loussac Library Innovation Lab Level 4. The Alaska Center for the Book will host a panel discussion about the changing literary Alaskan landscape. How has literature changed over the years? Is there currently a literary renaissance? 

Saturday, October 12, 1-2pm: The Dominion of Bears by Sherry Simpson at Muldoon Library. Learn about the habits of Alaska’s three bears with author Sherry Simpson as she talks about her upcoming book “Dominion of Bears”. This event will also be available via OWL videoconferencing.
