Spotlight on the Babbling Book, Haines

This year, seven bookstores around the state donated books for our Alaska Book Week daily book giveaway: this is the first in a series of posts that highlight the great work they do for readers and writers! Look for more information soon about this year's book giveaway.

The Babbling Book has been a Haines institution for more than two decades. Tom and Liz Heywood, the current owners, bought the store in 1998. This year-round, full-service indie bookstore features an extensive Alaska section as well as a surprisingly robust section dedicated solely to Haines authors. Located in the heart of Main Street, The Babbling Book has new books of all kinds, as well as cards, maps, gifts, and a large array of specialty toys. The bookstore is also an outlet for tickets to local performances and raffles for local nonprofits. Most travelers are surprised to find a full service bookstore in a town the size of Haines and appreciate it not only as place to step in out of the rain, but as a literary oasis where it might be least expected.

During Alaska Book Week 2013, the Babbling Book is offering a 20% discount on Alaska books!
