Day One (October 5): Alaska Book Giveaway!

Featured Bookstore: Parnassus Books, Ketchikan
Featured titles: Something Fishy This Way Comes by Ray Troll;
Can I Kayak, Daddy? by Joyce Duggan Autrey--both signed by author

We’re giving away books each day of Alaska Book Week. To win one of today’s featured titles, just answer the question below (one entry per person per day) before midnight today. The winner will be chosen by random drawing and announced on this site and on Facebook tomorrow.

Today’s question: If you could only buy one Alaska book (by an Alaskan or about Alaska) with your PFD check, which one would it be? Click here to comment.

Parnassus Books has been Ketchikan’s independent bookstore since 1985. It was formerly located upstairs in the Star Building on Creek Street, the historical red light district of Ketchikan. The “Star”, as it was called in the old days, was formerly a dance hall – with a few rooms upstairs for “extracurricular” activities.

Parnassus has recently moved to a brand new street-level storefront at 105 Stedman and current owner Maggie Freitag has maintained the unique atmosphere for both locals and visitors. Parnassus features a wonderful collection of Alaska literature and she will be running a discount on all books by Alaskan writers for Alaska Book Week. Visit their website at

Parnassus Books generously donated today's two titles in the Alaska Book Week Giveaway.

Thank you, Maggie!
