AQR and West Valley High Events

Alaska Book Week begins this Saturday! We are truly grateful for the amount of participation, sponsorship, and outreach this year. We apologize again in advance if we are not able to coordinate events and authors for everyone.

Alaska Quarterly Review Event [update]

Join Alaska Quarterly Review and the Alaska Center for the Book in sharing “The Power of Creativity to Transform a Life” on Thursday, October 9, 7 p.m. at the Wilda Marston Theatre at the Loussac Library.

This launch of the new issue of the AQR magazine features a premiere dramatic reading of “How I Became a Poet”, a story in the new edition by Steven Schurtzman about a young girl whose encounter with a visiting poet in elementary school changes both of their lives.

Following the dramatic reading by talented Anchorage actor Sarah Bethany Baird, Ron Spatz, editor of AQR, will moderate a panel discussion with Dr. Thad Woodard, Anchorage pediatrician and host of KSKA's "Line One Your Health Connection," Carol Sturgulewski, local writer and editor, Susan Dererra, a high school English teacher, and Joan Kane, an award-winning poet, an author of "Hyperboreal".

West Valley High School

There will be a book signing with Ray Troll on Saturday, Oct. 11 from 8:30-9:45 am at West Valley High School in Fairbanks.
